‘Everyone has a story.’

While everyone was outside playing sports and building snowmen, you could always find me doing one of two things: reading or writing.

I grew up with parents that instilled in me the importance of knowledge, particularly the knowledge obtained from reading. Considering my house growing up with absolutely filled with books, it was hard to avoid the lovely scent of old pages that would entice me.

As I grew older, watching the news every single night became a ritual. My mom would always say, “Everyone has a story, Noura.” Glued to my living room floor, memorized by the evening news, I couldn’t believe that becoming a storyteller was a viable career. Once I reached high school, I realized that I, too, could become a storyteller.

Fast forward to college, I was fortunate enough to not have to choose between journalism and creative writing. I attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. where I double majored in communication and journalism, and English with a creative writing emphasis.

Throughout my time at St. Thomas, I interned with multiple magazines and newspapers, such as Twin Cities Business Magazine and the Hastings Star Gazette. I even became the assignment editor for my school’s student-run news organization, TommieMedia.

I started my first “big girl job” before I graduated college as a writer for a media company that produced three B2B magazines. Later on in the year, I was able to get involved in politics working as a Deputy Campaign Manager for Matt Pelikan, the DFL-Endorsed candidate for Minnesota Attorney General. Since the primary election season has wrapped up, I am now looking for my next career opportunity.
